On May 12, 2015, Pope Francis told his audience at the opening mass of the 20th General Assembly of Caritas Internationalis:
… We must do what we can so that everyone has something to eat, but we must also remind the powerful of the Earth that God will call them to judgement one day and there it will be revealed if they really tried to provide food for Him in every person and if they did what they could to preserve the environment so that it could produce this food …
Jesus did tell us in Matthew 25:31–46 on what we will be judged when He comes to judge all nations. However, there was no mention of caring for the Earth.
We shouldn’t rely on someone else to tell us what is acceptable and what is not acceptable. We must read the Bible ourselves to learn the teachings of Jesus.
Jesus gave us guidelines for treating our fellow humans:
… Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me. (Matthew 25:40)
… Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me. (Matthew 25:45)
As long as we do what Jesus says, there is nothing for us to worry about when He comes to judge us, be it now or sometime in the future.
